Технология фирмы Microsoft. Позволяет сочетать различные прикладные программы-компоненты в среде Windows. Связывание и внедрение являются двумя способами включения программируемых объектов в составной документ. При связывании исходные данные физически продолжают оставаться там, где был создан объект. Составной документ содержит только ссылку на объект и соответствующее представление данных. При этом объекты привязаны к локальной файловой системе и не могут быть перенесены в другое место. Достоинством связывания является то, что размер составного документа практически не увеличивается, и то, что исходный объект можно использовать в нескольких документах. При изменении исходного объекта происходят автоматические изменения и в составных документах. При внедрении объекта его копия физически хранится в составном документе вместе с информацией, необходимой для его управления. При этом объем документа резко увеличивается. Достоинством внедрения является то, что составной документ можно произвольно переносить в любое место и редактировать внедренный объект внутри документа. Программа, в которой создается документ, к которому привязывается объект, называется приложением-клиентом, а та программа, в которой этот объект был создан — приложением-сервером. Вообще говоря, одна и та же программа может одновременно выполнять роль и клиента, и сервера по отношению к другим программам. Механизм OLE позволяет добавлять в свои приложения самые разные виды информации (видео, звук, графику и др.). В настоящее время разработчики пользуются спецификацией OLE 2.0. Важной функцией, включенной в версию 2.0, является местная активация, т.е. возможность "щелкнув" мышью дважды на объекте редактировать его внутри составного документа, не вызывая специально необходимое для этого приложение (например, редактировать рисунок в текстовом процессоре). Кроме то важной особенностью является технология drag-and-drop, когда "захватив" с помощью мыши объект, его можно переносить в другой документ или на пиктограмму, открывающую соответствующее приложение для обработки переносимого объекта.

When an object, such as an image file created with a paint program, is linked to a compound document, such as a spreadsheet or a document created with a word processing program, the document contains only a reference to the object; any changes made to the contents of a linked object will be seen in the compound document. ↑ Object.1) Некоторые глаголы принимают два дополнения, то есть после них в предложении может стоять две именные группы без предлогов или местоимения в объектном падеже. В таких случаях первое из дополнений считается непрямым, а второе - прямым (Direct object). Например, глагол send в предложении "Please send him my best regards" ( "Пожалуйста, передай ему мои наилучшие пожелания") имеет прямое дополнение my best regards и непрямое дополнение him.2) Непрямое дополнение обычно обозначает не то лицо или объект, который непосредственно подвергается действию, а "адресата" действия, то есть того, кому предназначено действие или на кого оно направлено.3) Непрямое дополнение может заменяться на предложную группу с предлогами to или for, стоящую после прямого дополнения. 4) Так же, как и прямое дополнение, непрямое дополнение может становиться подлежащим при пассивизации (см.
